Service

To serve means to assist or be of use. Serving is one of the reasons we are on this earth and the reason Jesus himself said He came to earth. When we serve, we reach out to meet the needs of others; service is an outward sign that we belong to God and desire to do his will. True service is not about grudgingly doing for others because of obligation, but an act that flows willingly, as a channel for God’s love. True servants give not just with their hands, but with their hearts.

Our strengths were given to us to help us serve. God rejoices when we change our “How can I help myself?” attitude to one of “How can I help others?”

True servants work hard even when no one but God notices.

Tony and Team Pink along with many people have found comfort through serving others. Terminally ill patients and their loved ones find comfort through others caring. Even the nurses, doctors, and volunteers who provide such care find their own lives changed in the process. We have learned about dying and living with dignity, we have learned how to be better listeners, we have learned how important it is to “seize the day,” and even the moment. We have learned that even the little things matter-like a smile, a hug, holding someone’s hand or spending time with those we encounter to serve. We have learned about the power of prayer by praying for the peace and strength to make it over the hurdles of life. We have learned about dealing with our own grief and loss and how to let go of self-pity, so we can cherish the act of living our lives a day at a time.
Serving has given us an education no textbook could provide. And it has changed us- for the better. Those with the fullest and most fulfilling lives are those who are busy serving others.

Life
Life is a gift to be used every day,
Not to be smothered and hidden away;
It isn’t a thing to be stored in a chest
Where you gather your keepsakes and treasure your best;
It isn’t a joy to be sipped now and then
And promptly put back in a dark place again.

Life is a gift that the humblest may boast of
And one that the humblest may well make the most of.
Get out and live it each hour of the day,
Wear it and use it as much as you may;
Don’t keep it in niches and corners and grooves,
You’ll find that in service its beauty improves.

May god bless you with all the good things in life and most of all good health! We are so blessed to have all of you in our lives and to be able to share our lives with you.

My Mom's Story

By Sara Baker
March 03, 2009
My mom, Jana Baker lost the battle to Breast Cancer May 5, 2007. She fought as hard and long as she possibly could do. I remember when she told me she had cancer. She took me out to dinner and she told me.
